MACOMB COUNTY LIBRARY
INTERNET ACCESS & USE POLICY
The Macomb County Library is an information and reference center
for all of Macomb County. The Library provides services to the
general public, government agencies, the business and economic
community, and local libraries.
Throughout its history, the
Macomb County Library has made information available in a
variety of formats, from print to audiovisual materials. The
Library’s computer system, CD-ROM databases, on-line
databases, and other computing resources enhance the Library’s
traditional collection by providing information not readily
available in print and audiovisual formats.
The Internet, as an
information resource, enables the Library to provide information
beyond the confines of its own collection. It allows access to
ideas, information, and commentary from around the globe.
Currently, however, it is an unregulated medium. As such, while
it offers access to a wealth of material that is personally,
professionally, and culturally enriching to individuals of all
ages, it also enables access to some material that may be
offensive, disturbing, and/or illegal. The provision of access
does not mean or imply that the Library endorses or sanctions
the content or point of view of any of the information or
commentary which may be found on the Internet.
Since the Library computers,
on which the public can access the Internet, are located in
public areas which must be shared by library users of all ages,
backgrounds, and sensibilities, individuals are asked to
consider this when accessing potentially controversial
information and images. Internet access computers will be
located where they can be monitored by staff for assistance and
security. The Library reserves the right to ask individuals to
discontinue the display of information and images which cause a
disruption.
Not all sources on the
Internet provide accurate, complete or current information.
Users need to be good information consumers, questioning the
validity of the information. The Library makes no guarantee,
either expressed or implied, with respect to the quality or
content of the information available on the Internet.
